Why sleep in your own bed, when you could watch mom wave colorful fabric around? Finley sat there, all swaddled and cozy, watching me fold the mountain of clothes. And once the show got boring, she drifted right off to sleep. I can tell you, I grinned all the way through this particular chore. *(hmmm. I wonder if toilet scrubbing would become a wonderful experience if I could just find a place to prop her up....)
Finley is not the only one growing around here. Before she came, I could never have imagined Jared being such an adoring big brother. He's just never been into little ones before...anyone smaller than him was sure to fall into his "annoying" category. But he certainly loves this little baby with all the tenderness of a Big Brother. He loves to hold her, and you can see by the look on his sweet little face that he feels like he's a pretty lucky boy. His character, his inner self, his view of the world are all growing. And I have to say, I love the little man I'm beginning to see.
One little lesson learned today...a chocolate chip cookie, a glass of milk, and a little two-year-old boy sitting on my lap have the power to defeat the grumpy attitude that can eat away at my day. After way too little sleep last night, and a day of pretty futile cleaning ahead of me, I was (as the kids so aptly put it) a "grumpy wumpus." Not grumpy at anyone, not stomping around...just your general grousing. But when Thomas and I sat down for a snack, I decided that this mama needed a cookie. Thomas crawled up in my lap, happily took his cookie in hand, and with the sweetness that only Thomas can muster, dunked his cookie in my milk and said, "Dip, dip." Bye, bye grumpies. You have been defeated by the power of the Tomma-Llama.
